Journalists across the country have been charged to cultivate the habit of writing and document events happening in this present age for the next generation.

This clarion call was made by Chief Ajibola Ogunshola, former Chairman, Punch Newspapers Nigeria Limited during a public presentation and launching of the book titled " Nigeria Media Leaders: Voices beyond the Newsroom (Vol 1& 2) Edited by Richard O. Ikiebe,  held on Tuesday, 21st of September, 2015, at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island.

Ogunshola who was the Chairman and the Chief launcher of the day reiterated that it is time for practising Journalists in the country to start cultivating the habit of writing if really they want to be relevant in this present generation and generation to come. He charged every media bodies and individual to follow the part of publication, while commending the effort of Ikiebe, the Chairman urged every to support the great project by Ikiebe.

In his own remark, Mr. Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser (Media) to President Muhammadu Buhari commended the effort of the author and seized the opportunity to reiterate the decision of the presidency to support the media and the practitioners, confirming that the president knows and appreciate the efforts of journalists towards Nation building and development and especially their efforts towards the attainment of Democracy and the 2015 general elections.

Adesina re- affirmed further that the presidency will continue to ensure press freedom and assist journalists by giving access to the media on every necessary information.

In the same vein, the former Editor of Daily Times and Ex- Governor of Ogun State, Aremo segun Osoba urged jornalists to develop the habit of keep record and data through writing for generational purpose.

Dr. Christopher Kolade, former Director General of Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) appreciate the publisher and media practitioners and encouraged them to offer more to the society. 

While reviewing the book, professor Adigun Agbaje, Dept of Political Science, University of Ibadan, represented by Dr. Bisi Olawunmi (Bowen University) disclosed that the two Volume books focus on different aspects which include business, politics, economy, crime, banking,security among others. According to him," the boos captured key actors in the media and it is a collection of memories which may have been lost." He stated further that the books brings forth new insight and provides voices that have been silenced in the pasts.

While appreciating the contributions of the media icons present,The Editor,  Ikiebe disclosed that Nigerians are addict readers but most writers do not write or give the society what interest them. He stated further that the books are borne out of the passion to give the society especially the academic world what they need to read, reiterating that that books aare basically for academic purpose which will be converted to audio, video and up load online in the nearest future. The Author seized the opportunity to encourage media practitioners to develop the habit of writing for future purpose and historical reasons.

The books encompass interviews with major media Icons in the country which include- Dr (Mrs.) Doyin Abiola, Felix Adenaike, Sam Amuka, Adamu Ciroma, Patrick Dele Cole, Dupe Ajayi Gbadebo, Lade Bonuola, Kevin Ejiofor, Tony Momoh, John Momoh, Dan Agbese, Gbenga Adefaye, Victoria Ezeokoli, Emea Izeze, Yakubu Mohammed, Bilikisu Yusuf, Chris Doghuje, among others.

Dignitaries that graced the occassion comprise media guru in both professional and academic sectors which include: Sam Amuka, Muhammed Haruna, Ray Ekpu, Martins Oloja, Sunny and Betty Irabor, Dan Agbese, Nosa Igiebor, prof. Ralph Akinfeleye, Lanre Idowu, among others.
