A Zuba Grade 1 Area
Court sitting in Abuja has on Tuesday sentence Sanusi Ayuba to 12 strokes of
the cane for stealing 15 tubers of yam, News Agency of Nigeria {NAN} reports.
Ayuba of no fixed
address was arraigned on a one-count charge of theft.
The judge, Malam Gambo Garba, sentence Ayuba after he pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.
Prosecutor Chinedu Ogada had told the court that Insp. Musa Adamu and his team attached to surveillance section of Zuba Police Station made the arrest on March 3.
Ogada said the defendant stolen 15 tubers of yam belonging to Rose Sunday at Dankogi Park-Zuba.
He said when the police questioned the defendant, he made confessional statement and the stolen yams were recovered from him.
The prosecutor told the court that his offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.
